artist bio title

I was born on the east coast in Virginia and spent my elementary school years in Illinois. After enough snow shoveling, the family followed my grandparents out to California where I've been ever since. I didn't really start drawing until late into my high school years. I had a real love of animation and ambitions to create my own, but back then it was an expensive thing to do as a hobby, so I stuck to pencil illustrating. I spent every free moment drawing sketches of animal characters, sometimes dozens a day. My early inspiration came from Robert Marble, a cartoonist out here in Newport Beach, whose work I admired at many mall art shows. More came from Warner Bros. director Chuck Jones.

The digital age hit me after the turn of the century and I have taken my illustrating work from the pencil and paper to the graphics tablet and monitor. I have a love for the CG short film format, something I've enjoyed since the early 1980's when a young John Lasseter was creating them at Lucusfilm. With recent drops in software prices and more powerful hardware, my ambitions of making animated short films is more realistic. I enjoy learning about every aspect of film making with a keen interest in special effects and conceptual art. I regularly attend the SIGGRAPH conference when it is out here on the west coast to keep up to speed with every aspect of the CG industry. I have several films in development, a bit ambitious for a newbie, but I enjoy the pre-production process.
